We’re excited to welcome (and in some cases, welcome back!) some great beer, cider, and wine makers to Withrow Market this year. Let’s get to know each one and take a look at what you might see on Saturdays at Withrow Park.
First, the newbies…
Banjo Cider
Banjo is a cidery and orchard based in Uxbridge Ontario. All their ciders use organic Ontario apples and ferment them longer than most of the bigger cideries around, which makes their ciders smoother and drier. If you like dry ciders, Banjo is for you!
Our recommendation: The Doppelganger, a dry-hopped cider made with buckwheat honey. If you’re a beer drinker looking to get into cider, this is a great one to start with. Plus, like all their ciders, it’s gluten-free!
Availability: August 20, Sept 3, Sept 17, Oct 1, Oct 15
Duxbury Cider
Duxbury Cider hails from Meaford ON, on the shores of Georgian Bay. All their apples come from the Georgian Bay area and they even use some heritage varieties in their ciders. Their ciders range from a traditional, champagne-style dry cider to one brewed with rose petals and honey.
Our recommendation: Their Honey Rose Petal Cider, a well-balanced cider with floral and honey notes. Try it on ice!
Availability: August 13, August 27, Sept 10, Sept 24, Oct 8
Red Tape Brewery
Red Tape is an Indigenous and family owned brewery based right here in East Toronto. Their story started with the creation of a beer to celebrate the arrival of their son in 2018, and they’ve been making beer ever since! In addition to their own beers the folks at red tape also work with clients to design and brew “bespoke” beers. Who knows, maybe you’ll be their next collaborator?
Our recommendation: The beer that started it all, their Celebration Saison. Brewed with ginger and orange, this fresh and bubbly brew will bring an aura of celebration to whatever you’re up to.
Availability: August 13, August 27, September 10, September 24, October 8
There are also some great companies returning to Withrow Market this year:
80x Wine Company
Back again after an incredible first year, 80x Wine Company is the product of two wine-loving friends who decided to throw caution to the wind and get in the winemaking game themselves. The result is a roster of well-made, delicious wines that are sure to make your summer even sweeter.
Our recommendation: When Pigs Fly, a rosé made from pinot noir grapes. This one barely stayed on the vendor table last year before being snapped up by eager market-goers, get yours before they sell out again!
Availability: August 20, September 17, October 15
Hinterland Wine Company
Hinterland Wine Company is all about sparkling wine. Most of their wine is made using either the traditional, champagne-style method, or the wilder, ancestrale method. Regardless of the method used, each of their wines are delicious and made at their winery in Hillier, ON using local grapes.
Availability: August 20, September 10, and October 1
Left Field Brewery
A well-known player in the Toronto beer scene by now, Left Field is back at the market with their baseball-themed brews. They’ve made a big name for themselves since launching in 2013 and are now a local favourite, offering delicious beers in a variety of styles.
Our recommendation: Get an assortment of their beers, and add a couple of their spiked seltzers too – you’ll have a great shot at pleasing everyone that way!
Availability: August 20, September 3, October 1, October 15
Muddy York Brewing Co.
Muddy York Brewing Co. is family-run local Toronto craft brewery that offers just about any style you could want. From sours to IPAs to traditional ales, they do it all – and they do it well. We’re excited to welcome them back for another year!
Our recommendation: Their flagship beer, the Gaslight Helles Lager or their award-winning Haberdasher Hefeweizen are both great summer options!
Availability: September 17
With so many great options, you’re sure to find something to sip on a summer evening or bring to your next BBQ. Make sure to check out each vendor’s profile to see when they’ll be at the market, and enjoy!
